Wynterhill was created over lunch. Stuart Hill and Colin Wynter KC didn’t arrive at that lunch intending to achieve that. They were just catching up. But, as things can happen over lunch, it became clear that both wanted to do something new and each of them had individually identified acting exclusively for policyholders as the opportunity. By the end of lunch, the firm even had its name – our advisers in setting up Wynterhill later told us that this is usually the thing people argue over for the longest time.
Wynterhill opened for business in February 2016 with two partners and one consultant. We had always intended to operate largely virtually, but we have been at 107 Cheapside (opposite Bow Lane for those unfamiliar) from the outset and our manner of working meant that the firm actually expanded significantly during the Covid pandemic and its lockdowns.
We also hope that, despite our significant growth, the principles that created the firm still run through it: deep interest in the law and commercial realities of insurance, and a desire to level the playing-field for policyholders.
The sizeable, stable and broad-based team we now have is testament to how far we have come. We hope to continue to grow by always delivering results for our clients.
